Years on the research team: 1996-2000 (4 years)
Current occupation: Psychologist - Private Practice
Outside of work interests: Being a mom, yoga, knitting.
Words of wisdom for current students on the research team: Being a part of Dr. O'Brien's research team is a very special opportunity! It is a wonderful time in your life to learn how to think critically about research and to conduct and evaluate psychological studies. I use the skills I learned from Dr. O'Brien and my research teammates all the time as a psychologist in private practice. Although I have not developed my own studies in a few years, I read studies relating to my patient's concerns all the time. Thanks to my experience on the team, I am able to stay on top of the most recent studies by being a careful and thoughtful consumer of research. Also, Dr. O'Brien's focus on social justice is unique and very special. There are fe places in the world one can really be in a community of researchers committed to making the world a better place for those who have less opportunity and resources. My words of advice are to cherish this time with the team and challenge yourself to be the best you can - ask questions, be curious, enjoy learning everything you can! Then, take it with you and use it in the way that is most meaningful to you as a psychologist!
